In Japan, especially in large cities, trains are very crowded. The morning rush hour is around 7 to 9 o'clock, and the evening is the most crowded time period from 17 to 20 o'clock.
It is said that Japan's rush hour is the most crowded in the world. In the main lines of Tokyo, the capital of Japan, the load factor sometimes exceeds 200%. This means that the inside of the train is full of passengers, and there is almost no space to stand.
During the rush hour, station staff may "push" passengers into the train. This is known as the "pusher staff" and is a scene seen especially at stations where it is very crowded. The station staff helps as many people as possible get on the train while paying attention to safety.
Japan's rush hour is famous for its level of congestion and the way it is managed. If you ever ride a train in Japan during rush hour, make sure to leave with plenty of time.
