日本（にほん）には、「百均（ひゃっきん）」と呼（よ）ばれるお店（みせ）があります。ほとんどの商品（しょうひん）が100円（えん）＋税（ぜい）で買（か）えるお店（みせ）です。百均（ひゃっきん）は、「百円（ひゃくえん）均一（きんいつ）」の略（りゃく）です。「百円（ひゃくえん）」は 100 yen、「均一（きんいつ）」は same という意味（いみ）で、「どの商品（しょうひん）も同（おな）じ100円（えん）ですよ」ということです。

English Translation

In Japan, there are stores called “hyakkin.” These are shops where most items can be bought for 100 yen plus tax. “Hyakkin” is short for “hyaku-en kinitsu,” which means "uniform pricing of 100 yen for all items.” “Hyaku-en” means 100 yen, and “kinitsu” means same— in other words, “everything costs the same 100 yen.”
At 100-yen shops, many different kinds of items are sold. For example, you can find stationery like notebooks and pens, tableware like plates and cups, and even snacks and drinks. Seasonal event goods are also popular.
You might wonder, "They're so cheap—are they really any good?" But products at 100-yen shops in Japan are actually good quality. That's why they're popular not only with Japanese people but also with tourists from overseas. Daiso, Seria, and Can Do are some of the most well-known 100-yen shop chains.
By the way, many 100-yen shops these days also sell items for 200 yen, 300 yen, or even 500 yen, not just 100 yen. For example, large storage boxes and tableware with cute designs are sometimes sold at prices higher than 100 yen. Many of these items are of good quality. If you ever come to Japan,be sure to try shopping at one!
