そんな飛騨高山の町並みは、金森長近という戦国時代の武将によって、16世紀から17世紀にかけて築かれました。彼は高山城というお城を建築したり、街道の整備をしたりしました。こうして、山奥に位置する飛騨高山に多くの商人が訪れるようになり、町が発展していき、現代の飛騨高山の基礎が築かれたと言われています。
飛騨高山には高山祭という有名なお祭りがあります。高山祭は、京都の祇園祭、埼玉の秩父夜祭と並んで「日本三大美祭」の一つに数えられています。日本各地に数多く存在する祭りの中でも、特に美しい祭りとされているのです。
高山祭は四月と十月の年に二回行われ、豪華な装飾が施された山車が街を練り歩き、伝統的な人形遣いや楽器の演奏が披露されます。このお祭りは国の重要無形民俗文化財にも指定されており、その歴史的価値は非常に高いといえます。

English Translation

Hida Takayama is a historic town located in Gifu Prefecture, Japan. This area is known for its rich nature and traditional architecture, attracting many tourists from both within Japan and overseas. One of the charms that draw people is its townscape. In the center of Hida Takayama, the appearance towns since the Edo period has been preserved, and it is referred to as "Hida's Little Kyoto" because of its scenery.
The townscape of Hida Takayama was constructed by a warlord named Kanamori Nagachika during the 16th to 17th centuries, during the Warring States period. He built Takayama Castle, and developing road through the city. Thus, many merchants came to visit Hida Takayama, which is located deep in the mountains, leading to the town's development, and it is said that the foundation of modern Hida Takayama was established.
Hida Takayama hosts the famous Takayama Festival, which is counted as one of the "Three Great Beautiful Festivals of Japan," alongside Kyoto's Gion Festival and Saitama's Chichibu Night Festival. Among the numerous festivals held throughout Japan, it is particularly noted for its beauty.
The Takayama Festival occurs twice a year, in April and October, featuring elaborately decorated floats that parade through the streets, and traditional puppetry and musical performances are showcased. This festival is designated as a national important intangible folk cultural property, and its historical value is considered to be very high.
