  1. 歌舞伎は、音楽や踊りと一体となった演劇で、日本を代表する伝統芸能の一つです。約四百年前の江戸時代に流行した「かぶき踊り」と呼ばれる踊りが歌舞伎の始まりと言われており、他の芸能や文化と交流しながら発展してきました。

Actors of female roles, or Onnagata, are required to have delicate techniques and expressive powers to perform as "women" on stage.
  3. In Kabuki, actors wear makeup to indicate the roles of the characters. The famous makeup called "Kumadori" is distinctive.
